Integrating films into the teaching of secondary school

Cinema in Italian schools is often an unwelcome guest. Unwelcome because the use of cinema as a teaching and learning experience has never found a permanent place in the curriculum. It is an unwelcome guest because it is a multimedia educational resource that is difficult to place, difficult to fit into the school context, and even hard to understand. It’s time to turn this “unwanted guest” into a valuable travel companion.

A screenwriter, director, writer and film critic, Manlio Castagna has also been involved in the artistic direction of the Giffoni Film Festival for more than 20 years. In 2022, he made his film debut as a director and screenwriter with “Il viaggio degli eroi”, produced by Rai Cinema and rewarded with record audience numbers on Rai1.
